Skrepenak ends offensive panel

WILKES-BARRE - Former Luzerne County Commissioner Greg Skrepenak terminated his effort committee, and records showed expenditures of about $40,000 last year and through January.

Mr. Skrepenak, who pleaded red-faced last week to accepting $5,000 from an unnamed developer who was granted a county-backed accommodation. According to a campaign finance report filed Monday, Mr. Skrepenak reported spending $39,636.47 in 2009 and in January 2010. His settled expenditure was a charitable contribution of $13,284 to the Colleen Shea Children's Organizing.

Mr. Skrepenak also reported two advertising purchases in March, totaling $3,710, from companies owned by Barton J. Weidlich, a former county contractor accused of imminent a corruption probe witness.
